ABOUT THE NATYAM
IT TOOK NEARLY TWO DECADES FROM AMATEUR BEGINNING OF NATYAM THEATER GROUP INTO A PROFESSIONAL ART. INITIALLY IT STARTED WITH THE NAME PANJ DARIYA RANGMANCH IT CARVED A SECURE NICHE WITH ITS NEW NAME—NATYAM. AIMED TO HIGHLIGHT THE CULTURE AND PREVAILING PROBLEMS, NATYAM GAINED MOMENTUM AND BECOME ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS THEATER GROUPS. EVEN DURING THE DARK DAYS IN PUNJAB CONTINUED BIT BY BIT TILL 1992. AFTER A GAP OF FIVE YEARS IN 1997, IT WAS REVITALIZED AND ITS MOMENTUM WAS ADVANCED BY KEERTI KIRPAL WHO BECAME ITS DIRECTOR. THE GROUP WAS AGAIN ON FAST TRACK AND IT ESTABLISHED ITSELF BY THE YEAR 2006. IN THESE YEARS, THIS GROUP HAS SUCCESSFULLY TRANSFORMED ITSELF FROM THE BLUE-COLLAR INTO PINK- COLLAR. NOW ITS AIM IS TO PUT EVERY COLOR OF PUNJABI RANGMANCH TO BRING IT AT PAR WITH THE BEST THEATER GROUPS. PEOPLE ASSOCIATED WITH THIS GROUP ARE NOT TIED UP WITH SINGLE IDEOLOGY BUT BELIEVE IN THE OVERALL AMELIORATION OF MANKIND.
NATYAM NEITHER WISH TO MAKE IT A PURE ART OR BRING IT DOWN TO THE LEVEL OF MERE SPEECH BUT WANTED TO BRING OUT THE EPITOME OF ART IN SIMPLE MANNER. FOR INSTANCE, NATYAM NEVER SUPPORT RAISING A DIRECT SLOGAN BUT SUGGESTS VENTING OUT EVERY FEELING THROUGH THE MEDIUM OF ART. THE CONTOURS OF NATYAM’S VIEWERSHIP INCLUDES A PERSON WITH SIMPLE THINKING AND SCHOLARLY TOGETHER. ITS AIM IS NOT ONLY TO MAINTAIN THE VIEWERSHIP OF THOSE WHO KNOW THEATER BUT TO INCLUDE THOSE WHO ALSO WHO ARE NOT AWARE OF IT. IT HAS NO HIDDEN POLITICAL OR ECONOMIC AGENDA BUT HAS ONLY ONE WISH TO BRING PUNJABI RANGMANCH AT GLOBAL ECHELON.
WE ARE ORGANIZING NATIONAL THEATRE FESTIVAL SINCE 2011 AND SO FAR NINE THEATRE FESTIVALS HAVE ALREADY BEEN ORGANIZED WHEREIN ARTIST PERFORM IN PUNJABI, HINDI AND OTHER LANGUAGES.
ABOUT THE DIRECTOR
AFTER JOINING THE GROUP AS AN ARTIST IN 1985, KEERTI KIRPAL WORKS UNDER THE DIRECTION OF DR. PALI BHUPINDER AND TOOK THE REINS OF THIS GROUP AS DIRECTOR IN THE YEAR 1997. AFTER INITIAL PLAYS LIKE “MITTI DA BAWA” AND LATER “US NU KAHEEN,” KEERTI MANAGE TO MAKE A PLACE FOR HIMSELF IN THE HEARTS OF URBAN AND RURAL AUDIENCE. WINNING ACCOLADES FOR BEST DIRECTION FOR THE PLAY “ZINDAGI”, KEERTI GOT GOLD MEDAL AT PUNJABI UNIVERSITY IN THE YEAR 2000, WHICH GAVE HIM IMMENSE IMPETUS TO BURN NIGHT OIL FOR PUNJABI THEATER. APART FROM THE YOUTH FESTIVALS, CHILDREN FESTS, KEERTI ALSO PROVED INSTRUMENTAL FOR PERFORMANCE OF HIS ARTISTS IN TWO BIG FESTIVALS OF PUNJAB—BABA FARID NATIONAL DRAMA FESTIVAL FARIDKOT AND THEATER FESTIVAL OF MAHASHAKTI KALA MANDIR BARNALA. HE GOT SEVERAL REWARDS FOR DIRECTIONS AND PERFORMANCE IN THESE FESTIVALS BETWEEN 1998 TO 2010. KEERTI HAS SO FAR DONE 1000 PERFORMANCES OF 60 PLAYS AND THE MOST FAMOUS ARE—RABBA RABBA MEEH BARSAA, CHAND JADON ROTI LAGDA HAI, RABB JI THALLE AA JO (ALL CHILDREN PLAYS) , ZINDAGI, GAATHA VAGDE PANIAN DI, MAI BHAGAT SINGH, CHANDAN DE OHLE, US NU KAHIN, WRONG NUMBER, TUHANU KEHRA RANG PASAND HAI, WAPSI, MITTI DI KAHANI, MURH AA LAMHA TON, POORAN, IH MAHABHARAT DA YUG NAHI ETC.
